Miranda "Fate" Exousia

The former Holy Legate of planet Liang's heavens and Mistress of House Exousia, Fate is a tall, imposing woman who rarely shows her true self due to a severe quirk of personality. Despite her prominent position however, she was given much 'imput' from the heavenly pantheon of gods and goddesses, which 'allowed her to do her job properly', something she quietly resented even after the heavens fell. Prior to rebelling, she answered exclusively to the heavenly pantheon of Liang in military matters. Though Fate was once Shaojiàng1) of the auxiliary forces within the Imperial Military of Tai Pan, she now serves as an Admiral of The Shield of Kowloon.

She is currently CadetNewb's character.

Miranda was born in 2948 GSC to House Exousia as one of its scions during a time of relative peace on Liang (Tai Pan). However, she did not have the birthright necessary to become a Holy Legate and hold command over several angelic legions. Instead, she was raised as a 'spare', and to completely ensure she was fit for the role, something that not all angelic houses committed to out of arrogance, Miranda was sent to the agoge at the age of 5. In addition to having soldiery and warrior-hood drilled and beaten into her from a ripe young age, the agoge also taught her to be a good angel by not only teaching her the ethics and morality of her people, but housekeeping, child rearing and also the arts, including singing and dancing.

It was here in the agoge that the chosen heir was killed in a training accident, and their second was deemed unfit due to having failed to protect them. As a result, the duty to lead fell squarely on Fate's shoulders.

It was during this time, when Miranda was 10 years old, that the Taianese arrived. Though the majority of angels gave them little attention, she found them curious and would often fly out to watch these strange newcomers during the moments where she foraged for food as part of the agoge.

Upon taking the mantle of Holy Legate at the age of 18, she took on a new name as was their custom and became known as “Fate” to all others outside of family and close friends at the beginning of her tenure. However, by this time, Taianese influence had skewed the balance of the world, displacing peoples, creating unexpected alliances and the like. As a result, Fate's early years as Holy Legate was spent overseeing and intervening in wars and conflicts that had arisen due to the arrival of the Taianese and their daily activities. Worse still, she also had to deal with suppressing the increasing amounts of heresy and demonic incursions. As these got worse however, the heavens slowly came to believe that the Taianese were upsetting the natural balance of the world, but remained divided on this, as well as what course of action to take.

This disagreement even divided the gods and goddesses of Liang, and when the elves of the world declared war on the Taianese with the express intent of genocide in 2969 GCE, the sides came to blows. Though she found the Taianese interesting, and knew them better than most other angels, Fate ultimately had a duty to fulfill, which was to keep the balance. As a result, she fell in line with the largest faction, which wished to subjugate the Taianese as well. The heavenly civil war - known as 'The Discord' - lasted for several bloody years where Fate further honed her talent on her own people, yet despite this, her faction was whittled down by an insurgency and lost, with the heavens ultimately choosing not to intervene as a result. Despite this, she managed to gather enough support for an entire angelic legion, and sallied forth to aid the elves, becoming 'Fallen' in the process.

However, before they could arrive on the battlefield, Fate watched from the distance as the Taianese destroyed the planet's mana node and the surrounding elvish armies with an orbital strike, and in the process, Liang's heaven and hell. As the ruins of both fell or emerged from their planes, Fate frantically made to try and save any survivors she could find, but eventually had to confront the Taianese, the now de-facto superpower of Liang. Though she had wished to side with the elves, Fate understood the turning tide and in 2975 GSC, made to negotiate her people's integration into Taianese society in order to keep the peace and promote balance across the planet.

Though Fate had to effectively restart her military career as part of Tai Pan's auxiliary forces, her ruthless and efficient conduct quickly saw her promoted through the ranks thanks to no shortage of conflict. Peacetime would have ensured a glass ceiling would have hung low over her, but the four Wars of Secession allowed for her to prove her loyalty and competence time and time again. Despite empathizing with the rebel elves and humans, Fate's personal beliefs meant she refused to betray the Taianese whom she now worked for; as an angel, she was sworn to uphold peace and order, and could not aid rebels or insurgents. As a result of her beliefs however, Fate most often sought diplomacy and compromises over violence, yet when this was insufficient, would quickly and decisively crush whatever was in her way.

Due to her conduct and policies, she also had many rebels prefer to surrender to her or Chiharu Natsumi in order to avoid the much feared korui_hoshiko, both of whom Fate respected. Despite her success however, an elf by the name of Bhelith Blackspear would often act as an elusive thorn in her side, something Fate was never able to decisively counter during the wars. This was only remedied with the wars' fifth conclusion, after which Bhelith had become an ally who served the empire.

When the Emperor of Tai Pan began his The Grand Crusade however, Fate correctly thought the endeavor was a foolish one, and was grateful that she was not tapped to be one of the officers attending, as she was more interested in staying close to her people and maintaining the peace. Despite this though, the disappearance of the Emperor and his crusaders had caused ripples which rapidly changed the political landscape. With the ascension of The Immortal Emperor and Empress Cixi Zhangsun, Fate soon found herself and her people chafing under the xenophobic policies of the latter. Despite her warnings that these would cause friction, Fate was ignored, and when the Wangdaio Colonies seceded in 3008 GSC, she felt vindicated, yet at the same time, confused as to why they were not being reconquered.

When she realized that the Emperor and Empress were simply apathetic to the colonies though, Fate was silently angry, and instead busied herself with the next fire to be put out instead. Not too long after the secession of the Wangdiao Colonies, overtures to the The Principality of Prydain went sour, leading the mysterious faction to attack with proxy forces in a display of power with the intent of fear, instigating what is now known as The January Incident. Still, due to the Empire's more recent xenophobic policies and meddling on the Empress' part, Fate and her auxiliary forces were forced to remain inactive during the worst of it, and only came into the field to rescue Hoshiko Korui when things had taken a horrible turn for the worse.

By then, the damage was done, and Fate's effort centered on treating civilians and pushing back the enemy's rear guard as they departed, their task completed.

The complacency Fate witnessed among Taianese high command and the rulers themselves regarding the fall and following blackout of the Wangdiao Colonies quietly frustrated Fate to no end, but she rationalized away her own inaction with things such as 'duty', which is something she continues to regret. It wasn't until five years later that any attempt to rescue the former colonists were made, and by then, vast amounts of damage had been done. The influx of non-Taianese refugees that occurred after piercing through the information blackout however, was considered undesirable by the Empress of Tai Pan and contrary to her xenophobic policies.

As a result, Fate had found herself and many of her soldiers under pressure to resign their commission and join the fledgling navy of the newly created Kowloon Special Political Region, a place that was parts social experiment and ethnic dumping ground under the command of its empress, Bhelith Blackspear.

A list of known family members.

  • Build and Skin Color: She is a woman who is extremely large and tall. Though her body is lean like a ballerina's when not including her bust, she is as solid as a tank despite only appearing to be very well toned. Her skin is normally a dull gray, but is lightly tanned due to the extended time she has spent in the sun during training and in combat.
  • Facial Features and Eye Color: Fate’s face has largely been spared any scars save a few small nicks and scratches. Her expression’s almost always dour and her eyes are slate gray, adding to her cold and fearsome countenance.
  • Hair Color and Style: Fate keeps her silvery white hair cut short save for the ear tail on her left side. That, she has grown until it has come to rest on her shoulder, and is braided with the lower third dyed a sharp shade of red.
  • Distinguishing Features: Fate’s body is covered in scars from sparring, combat, and something else. Her eyes are particularly intense and cold.
  • Modifications: Liberal by angelic standards, Fate's body features several enhancements. These include an ultralight, non-metallic skeletal reinforcement layer, a bio-engineered sub-dermal ballistic weave, Taianese mental augmentations along with the necessary networking organs, and a machine interface system at the base of her neck which is hidden from sight by a specialized dermal cover.

Personality: Serious to a fault, unwavering and ambitious, Fate is a woman who doesn’t take 'no' for an answer. She never smiles and she never laughs. Given her role in angelic society, Fate has seen significant amounts of war and carnage in her life, and at some point, forgot how to be happy. Her job, her occupation, her objectives in life and her people are what she lives for as a result. By traditional Angelic standards, she is considered a liberal. Specifically, she is a firebrand that shakes the establishment and shatters taboos as well as doing things believed to be beneath their people, such as taking on genetic modifications. This merely means however, that to everyone else, she is moderate to conservative, depending on the topic.

Likes: Training, Fighting, Destiny, Cooking
