Torbin Springborn is the 212th Pillar of The Church of the Holy Sword on the Planet Jord. The Pillar is the head of the Church of the Holy Sword and replaces the old Pillar after completing a religious ritual. He picks two others, the Wolf and the Scepter to help facilitate the religious organization of the Church, and holds a great deal of political power and can confirm the selection of the next Divine Ruler of the Dragon Throne.

He was formerly a Templar of the Holy Sword and was the Lord of Mount Verde. He was married to Mercedes Verde, who disappeared shortly after he earned the title of Dragon Slayer and became the 212th Pillar.

He was known to be thoughtful, intelligent and fair in his dealings as a Templar of the Holy Sword. He took no joy in slaughtering mages or elves and was rumored to be a reformist, wanting to change the religious canon to be more tolerant of wielders of The Word and Embers. As the Pillar he has become rather stoic and rarely speaks in public, though he is frequently seen interacting with the Legendary heroes, his friends that survived the journey to slay the dragon that named him, “Dragon Slayer”, the Louvel twins, Isabella Louvel and Reims, and less frequently, his friend, Adrian Voss.

Torbin's life before the dragon was relatively unremarkable as far as Templars go and was a minor nobility with some holdings. It's believed that Isabella and Reims where childhood friends that stayed with Torbin as he rose through the ranks of the Templar and then chose to accompany him to the Heart of the World to fight the riding threat of a Dragon in the North.

The journey to the Cavern in the heart of Jord where the dragon resided was long and took over a year to complete. Few that rode into the dragon's lair survived and it left a mark on Torbin. He sent his friend, Adrian, to deliver a letter to his wife, Mercedes, and she disappeared before her husband returned from the journey. It is believed that the Pillar is obsessed with his lost love's disappearance and is still searching for her, almost 20 years later. The years have gently aged Torbin, as all other Pillars that receive the blessing of Tiwaz and he is rumored to no longer know sickness.

His Holy Reverence, the Dragon Slayer, is more reserved than his preceders and is thought to still be in mourning for his lost Mercedes. There are wild and hushed whisperings that the Pillar and the Wolf are romantically involved in some way. He has named no protegee nor are there any children that claim direct lineage to Torbin.
