House Arleigh
Overview
The elvish line of Arleigh (Arr-lee) can be traced back to the town, eventually the city of the same name upon the planet Jord, previously inhabited primarily by the elves and subsequently inhabited by the humans. The line of Arleigh goes back to the very beginning of the Second Children and is generally famous for its warriors. House Arleigh
Their symbol is the Kirikal Stag, which is native to the planet Jord. The remaining scions of Arleigh breed a particular strain of stag for battle, with a shaggy white pelt, which gives them their coat of arms - A white stag on a green background. They frequently wear, or incorporate the hide of these stags into their common dress, and that is as much an indicator of an Arleigh soldier as the emblem is.
History
- House Arleigh migrated from Jord to Liang during the plague induced by the gods, being chiefly responsible for some of the most bloody and brutal battles in history. They are, as a result, rendered landless, but quickly re-establish themselves upon the new planet. Many of their armies die of plague.
- The House rose to prominence again when it fought in the first and second wars of independence against the Tai Pen. As a result, many of their more prominent members who had survived the plague died. The Lordship of Arleigh passed to the second son, Teneval Arleigh, known as the Stoneblade, lacking other heirs. Lord Teneval presses the attack, though eventually he loses the
- They fought in the third war. The House Arleigh is again defeated on the field, this time without assistance from the Alliance. The loss is heavier, but the House, learning from the first two wars, began to adapt the spells of Liang to strike Tai Pen aircraft from the sky. The resulting orbital bombardment decimates the estate, and the remaining scions of Arleigh scatter as outlaws. Some of the House flees to the Gartagen Union to hide.
- In the fourth war, the incumbent Lady Bhelith Arleigh, known as the Blackspear, returns to Liang wielding a staff of black metal, serving as a rallying call to the elves and alliance humans still willing to fight. She earns her name on the battlefield due to her standard and at the height of the short war, wielding the artifact, strikes a Tai Pen battle cruiser out of the sky.
- She is eventually defeated at the battle of Tien Ho Valley, having been abandoned in large part by her followers, and is captured along with the remaining leaders of the rebellion.
