Pacificia is the fouth planet from the star of the Pacifica system, which is centered around a G-type main sequence star. In spite of its formal designation as an ocean world, Pacifica is the only habitable planet in the system. Eighty-five percent of the surface is covered by saltwater oceans. In addition, fifteen percent of the terrestrial surface area is covered by fresh water glaciers at the poles. Most of the remaining terrestrial land is extremely suitable for farming, although there are a few small mountain ranges marking the geography of the planet.

Most of Pacifica is unexplored wilderness, as such, there is only one major urban location on the surface of the planet. However, there are many rural farming communities on the planet, which is where a significant portion of the Nisse immigrant populations are located. Pacifica's few urban areas are mostly human, many of whom are employed as business people for Genesis Animation the the various agricultural corporations on the planet.

  • Gaia: Gaia is the sole major urban center on Pacifica, and by extension, the Pacifica System. It is a Major Urban Area/City, Major Spaceport

  • Elja: Farming Village
  • Liebaži: Farming Village
  • Valssi: Farming Village
  • Vilpää: Farming Village
  • Kilinna Spaceport: Spaceport, Minor Urban Area
  • Nadi Nueva: Underwater mining complex and military installation

The major underwater societies include Pacifican Subsurface Cultural and Economic Coalition (PSCEC)

Pacifica is unique among the Interstellar Alliance planets for its vast saltwater oceans, harboring vast biomass to exploit, its seafloors dotted with nodes of strategically important metals. As such, the Pacificans, using schematics and ideas developed on the human home-world Earth, developed and grew sprawling underwater cities to harvest these minerals. Furthermore, the depth of the water provides excellent concealment against the primary methods of detection from orbit, pushing the Pacificans to develop a vast array of missile defense systems in the form of ballistic submarines, its firepower exceeding that of the planet's orbital defenses.

It was not so easy taming the waters. In some aspects, it was harsher on the Pacifican colonists than space, for not only did they have to fight the ocean's overwhelming pressures that crushed any person not in a submarine pod, but also its unpredictably. Many died in the first few years of colonization attempts. Alas, when the waters were tamed, the children of the seas, as they called themselves, or “ocean-dwellers”, by those who remained on land, became strong and resilient, bonded by the common goal of survival underneath the crushing weight of the ocean.

Nonetheless, Pacifica's waters took a toll on the populace that fought to conquer it. Kilometers below the waves, isolated from their surface brothers and sisters, trapped in thick, metal bunkers, the children of the seas grew to resent the surface-dwellers, criticizing them for their ignorance of the difficulties of living underwater and for their constant demand for material imports, with seemingly little regard for the needs of the underwater civilians. In this regard, the children of the seas saw more in common with asteroid belt colonists across star systems, who shared similar hardship and suffered similar exploitation, at one point or another.

No underwater city better represents the ocean-dwellers' way of life than Nadi Nueva, situated on the edge of the Kaio Trench to exploit its hydrothermal vents, both for thermal energy, and to collect the gases and metals spewed forth by the vents. The city boasts the largest mining operation of the underwater societies, along with the central command center for Pacifica's submarine defense fleet.

Ideas for Development

  • Pacifica has a major corporate presence, on account of Genesis Animation and various agricultural corporations.
  • Although eight-five percent of Pacifica's surface is covered by water, the terrestrial portions of the planet have good soil and are very well suited to farming.
  • Genesis Animation operates six clandestine biosynthesis facilities under the surface of the ocean. On average, each facility produces 100 healthy, genetically engineered bodies per day, which are then merged with a consciousness via an arcane and highly industrialized process of amino acid synthesis and life magic. The most common bodies produced are genetically engineered Humans, Elves, Taianese, and Nisse. The existence of these facilities is unknown to the public, and Genesis utilizes an extensive security clearance network in order to maintain secrecy.
  • There is a large population of Nisse immigrants on the planet. Many of them work as laborers on the vast farming structures on the surface of the planet.
  • Maybe a notable event in the timeline where the underwater citizens almost went to war with the surface citizens, with the submarine ballistic network being a key part of the conflict – Ray Of Meep
