Kamacurra

The Kamacurra are a massive omnivorous taur-like insectoid species native to the planet Kama. They are a predatory, militaristic species, however, they possess a large sense of spiritualism that has united them as a species. They are a wise, well-cultured species that are separated into castes.

They have evolved from a largely destructive species that over many years have become patient and well-learned. Because of their warlike past, they have developed a spiritual ‘mind & soul’ sense of love that permeates deep into their culture and behavior as well as a passionate love of music and art.

Kamacurra are a taur-like insectoid species whose bodies are broken up into two ‘halves’.

The bottom ‘half’ consists of a long and (usually) rounded abdomen that houses their six hind legs and wings, and a thorax that supports the Kamacurra’s raptorial front legs- thick and long limbs tipped with massive, spiked scythe-like ‘graspers’. This lower half is rigid and covered in a thick, tough exoskeleton. The only truly flexible, moving parts on a Kamacurra’s abdomen are their hind legs and wings.

The upper ‘half’ begins where the Kamacurra’s metathorax ends and consists of a humanoid abdomen and a mantid-like triangular head complete with a beak-like snout, small (usually hidden) mandibles, and antennae. This upper half is incredibly flexible and can turn a full 165 degrees in both directions. This more humanoid 'half' is quite feminine in appearance thanks to the curvy appearance of their 'hips' and upper stomach area. All Kamacurra, however, lack breasts.

The different colorations of and the patterns on a Kamacurra’s body are vast but are influenced by their environment as well as their parents. Some Kamacurra have muted forest-like tones while others mimic the many flowering plants that cover Kamma.

The Kamacurra are a mono-sexed hermaphroditic species whose appearances lean heavily towards femininity.

The Kamacurra grow anywhere from 7’-12’ tall with the lower half of their bodies taking up a majority of this height (5’-10’). They tend to weigh anywhere from 400-800 lbs (180-360 Kg)

Kamacurra have three eyes, two on the sides of their heads and one centered just above the middle of their ‘foreheads. The two eyes on the sides of their heads have what is known as stereo vision. Given the Kamacurra heavily rely on their vision their compound eyes contain thousands of ommatidia. A small area at the front that mimics a more humanoid pupil produces the highest resolution necessary to examine their surroundings in extreme detail, while the peripheral eyes focus on perceiving movement around the Kamacurra. The center third eye is a non-compound eye that is used to look and focus on specific things directly in front of them.

On the back of a Kamacurra’s thorax are slits that lead to a Kamacurra’s auditory thoracic organ- which allow them to hear even ultrasonic frequencies. This was an adaption that has stayed with them from an earlier cycle in their evolution.

The Kamacurra are a naturally empathic species with an innate aptitude for psionics. The use of psionics is so common within the Kamacurra and so embedded within their society that those who are born without the ability to use Psionics are considered disabled. The most common use for this ability is communication, in fact, a majority of communication between (and even with other species) Kamacurra is entirely telepathic- usually in the form of raw emotion and ideas, but occasionally in words, if the language is one the Kamacurra knows.

Kamacurra are also capable of telepathic manipulation- the strength of which heavily relies on their own personal willpower as well as the understanding of their own physical limits. It is entirely possible for a Kamakura to kill themselves by overstressing themselves with this ability.

Well-trained and some naturally talented Kamacurra have the ability to use their innate empathic abilities to perform other tasks, such as a physical manifestation of their thoughts. This manifestation is usually purely visual, but with more concentration, this psychic image can be made corporeal. Most often this is in the form of a simple weapon, but it is also possible to create other objects with extreme concentration and rarely can this be done for more than a couple of minutes depending on the complexity.

Because the use of psionics requires a strong, resilient mind most Kamacurra are harder to manipulate using mind-affecting drugs.

There is a small caste of Kamacurra, known as Khaamoshi, whos minds are closed off the external use to the innate ability that most of their species and instead are gifted with minds like fortresses- incredibly adept at defending themselves from the malicious use of Psionics against them. As consequence, however, attempts at Psionic healing are most often unsuccessful and on occasion can actually worsen injuries from the strain on their systems alone.

It should be noted, however, that these Khaamoshi are still capable of communication via psionics.

Kamacurra are born from eggs, laid in small clutches of 4-6 eggs- Each egg approximately the same weight and size of a grapefruit. In most cases, only half of these eggs will hatch- each producing a single young Kamacurra (called a nymph at this stage in their life). These nymphs are often violent towards anything other than their parent figures and their siblings for the first few weeks of their life.

After a couple of months these Nymphs look the way they should, like smaller versions of their adult counterparts. They generally reach 3-4 feet in height by a year of age.

Biological and Sexual adulthood for the Kamacurra is ten years of age.

The Kamacurra are a hermaphroditic species, meaning they possess both male and female sex organs. Each member of the species is capable of both carrying and supporting eggs, as well as inseminating said eggs.

Their 'female' sex organ is an ovipositor, capable of delivering eggs directly into other Kamacurra. The Kamacurra are capable of choosing whether or not they lay eggs, however, functioning as a natural form of birth control. The 'male' sex organ is an egg 'sac' that inseminates any eggs that reside within.

As such it isn't possible for foreign species to properly mate with any Kamacurra except via artificial means.

Both of these sex organs are hidden within a hidden orifice located on their abdomens. The ovipositor is only exposed during sex and is otherwise kept well protected within their abdomens. The Kamacurra lay anywhere from 4-6 eggs, though on average only about half of these eggs will hatch.

The Kamacurra are an omnivorous species, however they are particularly fond of meat and ‘sweets’. A very large majority of their dishes are easily described as ‘sweet and savory’ being a mixture of the various animals and fruits that grow on Kama

The Kamacurra are a very passionate and emotional species, given that they are- as a whole- empaths. Everything they do as a species is guided by this and their spiritual views. It is a commonly held belief that all life in the universe is connected spiritually and thus life never really ends, but must always be respected and celebrated. This is reflected very heavily in their art, music, and writings- and in the way they behave.

The Kamacurra have a monarchy based society, with Royal and noble titles signifying the upper-crust of society.

A majority of the Kamacurra's communication is done through telepathic messages that consist mainly of raw emotion and ideas. They do, however, possess a sing-song like language that is used mainly for those who are incapable of communicating through the use of psionics- however this language is also used in the creation of music. The Kamacurra have a basic written language that consists of Thirty-Two characters.

The Kamacurra naming scheme follows a very basic template ; (Title) (Clan) (Given Name) Ex. Rani Bulbuli Ayawa

Most Kamacurra pick their own given names when they reach adulthood, and as they have been exposed to more and more outside cultures their chosen names have started to vary.

In informal situations dealing with other species, most Kamacurra go by only their given names.

The upper 'crust' of the Kamacurra Caste System- These are the Royals, government officials, military officers, and great minds of Kamacurra society.
